Teens charged in fatal beating of Mexican immigrant
Three white teens were charged Friday in what officials said was an epithet-filled fatal beating of an illegal Mexican immigrant in a small northeast Pennsylvania coal town.
Brandon J. Piekarsky, 16, and Colin J. Walsh, 17, were charged as adults with homicide and ethnic intimidation in the July 12 attack on Luis Ramirez.
A third teen, Derrick M. Donchak, 18, was charged with aggravated assault, ethnic intimidation and other offenses. All are from Shenandoah, where the attack occurred.
Ramirez, 25, was beaten to death after an argument with a group of youths that police said included high school football players. Authorities could not immediately say whether any of the suspects were members of the team, but they confirmed that all three used ethnic slurs during the fight.
"As a result of this crime, a young man has lost his life. Many other lives have been devastated, and the borough of Shenandoah has been filled with tensions between many ethnic groups," Schuylkill County District Attorney James Goodman said.
"Now that the criminal charges have been filed, we must let this case be handled in the criminal justice system," he said.
Police said that as many as six teens were involved in the fight, which ended with Ramirez in convulsions and foaming at the mouth. He died July 14 of head injuries.
Crystal Dillman, the victim's 24-year-old fiancee, who is white and grew up in Shenandoah, has said Ramirez was often called derogatory names, including "dirty Mexican," and told to return to his homeland.
"I plan on moving out of this town as fast as I can. Not because I'm scared. I just don't want to see my children have to deal with what their father dealt with," Dillman said.
Piekarsky and Walsh were being held without bail, while Donchak was held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Lawyers for Piekarsky and Walsh said that their clients were not guilty and that there was no evidence to support the homicide charges. They also said they would try to have the case removed to juvenile court.
Donchak declined comment.

Hip Hop We Gotta Do Better?!?!?
Alright so I am a big Luda FAN!
Hence me promoting his new mixtape, in yesterday's post.
I even heard the Pro-Obama song and didn't over analyze it..... However after getting home from work, I come to see Ludacris on the News....
So much of a big deal was made that Obama had to reply quicker then he did for numerous other controversies...... Clinton, Negative Adds, Mccain, Religion, Pastor Wright, Hague, arrogance . . .
The BBC reports.....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7534736.stm
A song by rap star Ludacris criticising Barack Obama's opponents has been called "outrageously offensive" by the US presidential candidate's campaign.
Politics As Usual calls President Bush "mentally handicapped", and insults both Hillary Clinton and John McCain.
"Ludacris is a talented individual but he should be ashamed of these lyrics," said Mr Obama's spokesman Bill Burton.
The rap star's publicist initially declined to comment, reported the Associated Press.
'Great talent'
The musician used a misogynistic term to describe Mrs Clinton and urged Mr Obama against appointing her as his running mate, saying that she "hated on you".
Mr McCain, the Republican candidate for the presidency, does not belong in "any chair unless he's paralysed", according to the rapper.
Mr Burton added: "As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn't want his daughters or any children exposed to."
The Ludacris song urges black people to cast their votes in the forthcoming election, and lends his support to Mr Obama's bid.
The lyric "the world is ready for change 'cause Obama is here" is repeated throughout the track.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine earlier this year, Mr Obama included Ludacris when describing hip-hop stars he considered "great talents and great businessmen".
In 2006, before he announced his intention to run for president, the politician met the rapper privately in Chicago to discuss youth issues.
Now there can be several arguments that "The media is taking advantage." or "It's because Ludacris is Black." etc and so on.....
My question for you is:
WE KNOW the media will be unfair, biased, ignorant, judgemental and WE KNOW that a double standard exists(Not saying we should be happy with it).
But if WE KNOW these things are prevalent, shouldn't we as supporters be more cautious with what we put out......so maybe through Obama winning, without these distractions that WE KNOW will happen, the change will come???
Ludacris . . . I am a big supporter, but I do think that you are a better businessman, and could have made a better judgement as to "How your song will be taken out of context, before you put it out there." And my biggest fear as a fan is that this is just a publicity stunt for your album..... Say it aint so Luda...Say it aint so...

Disney.....C'mon!
“The Princess and the Frog”
Now I tend to watch Disney movie with ethnic stereotypes like a Mexican watches Lou Dobbs on CNN.... waiting to cringe at the audacity!
So just when I thought the preview didn't go too far..... Here comes this firefly!
So I did a little research and found pretty quickly that this is still after almost a complete re-write do to . . . . You guessed it, being called out for being too Stereotypical!!!!
===================================================
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/2305515/Disney's-first-black-princess-leads-to-race-row.html
Originally called The Frog Princess, its heroine was to be a chambermaid called Maddy working for a spoilt white debutante in 1920s New Orleans.
But it sparked a backlash from critics who claimed it reinforced prejudice and demeaned black people.
As a result the title of the musical, which has yet to be released, was changed to The Princess and The Frog and the princess will now be called Tiana.
Among the concerns were the New Orleans setting, the portrayal of voodoo and the overtones of slavery.
One of the film's staunchest critics was William Blackburn, a columnist for the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina.
"Disney should be ashamed of what it is trying to pass off as its first black princess," he said."Despite all its resources and experience, it has failed to create a black princess to rival its predecessors.
"For one, this princess' story is set in New Orleans, the setting of one of the most devastating tragedies to beset a black community. And then they throw in the voodoo theme and an alligator sidekick. When you put New Orleans, alligators and voodoo together, there's no beauty there."
He added that Maddy sounded too similar to Mammy, a name synonymous with the segregated Deep South.
Rodney Hinds, features editor of The Voice newspaper, said: "We are talking about a big company who has had to go back to the drawing board. It's disappointing... Some of the stereotyping of people from our community is still rigid in people's minds. We have our own dreams and stories like everyone else, and we want them to be portrayed positively."
Following the rewrite the heroine has been recast as Tiana who is destined to live happily ever after with a dashing character expected to be of Middle Eastern heritage. The race of the villain is also reported to have been revised.
A spokesman for Disney said: "The story takes place in the charming elegance and grandeur of New Orleans' fabled French Quarter during the Jazz Age... Princess Tiana will be a heroine in the great tradition of Disney's rich animated fairy tale legacy, and all other characters and aspects of the story will be treated with the greatest respect and sensitivity."

Jim Crow . . . 2008
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House of Representatives was poised Tuesday to pass a resolution apologizing to African-Americans for slavery and the era of Jim Crow.
The nonbinding resolution, which is expected to pass, was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, a white lawmaker who represents a majority black district in Memphis, Tennessee.
While many states have apologized for slavery, it will be first time a branch of the federal government will apologize for slavery if the resolution passes, an aide to Cohen said.
By passing the resolution, the House would also acknowledge the "injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery and Jim Crow," the period after slavery was abolished in which African-Americans were denied the right to vote and other civil liberties. The resolution states that "the vestiges of Jim Crow continue to this day."
"African-Americans continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow -- long after both systems were formally abolished -- through enormous damage and loss, both tangible and intangible, including the loss of human dignity and liberty, the frustration of careers and professional lives, and the long-term loss of income and opportunity," the resolution states.
The House would also commit itself to stopping "the occurrence of human rights violations in the future," if it passes the resolution.
The resolution does not address the controversial issue of reparations. Some members of the African-American community have called on lawmakers to give cash payments or other financial benefits to descendents of slaves as compensation for the suffering caused by slavery.
Disney's #7 Most Racist Character...... That's Right Jim Crow . . .
http://www.cracked.com/article_15677_9-most-racist-disney-characters.html
In this 1941 classic, Dumbo the flying elephant runs into a band of jive-talking black crows who sing, "I'd be done see'n about everything/when I see an elephant fly!"
Lesson Learned: Come on, blackbirds acting in a manner stereotypically assigned to African-Americans isn't that offensive. At least they didn't just get some white guy to do his best "black voice." Oh, really? They did? And, they called the lead character "Jim Crow?" Um, hey, look over there! It's a convincing, logical end to this argument!
Best (Worst?) Moment: So many too choose from. The crows are very specifically depicted as poor and uneducated. They're constantly smoking; they wear pimptastic hats; and they're experts on all things "fly," so it's really a team effort contributing to the general minstrel-show feel to the whole number. You could pretty much pause this video at any second and use it as evidence in your hate-crime lawsuit against Disney.
Ok so on a positive note..... Political/hiphop designers "Too Black Guys" have also recently come out with a Jim Crow line for 2008, to portray that these times, will not be forgotten....

Bill O'Really???? C'MON!
"FOX must stop injecting racism, prejudice, and fear into our political dialogue. We intend to hold FOX, its advertisers, and its personalities accountable for FOX's attempts to smear the Obamas."
Bill O'Rielly's response......
"The Move On organization espouses a radical left agenda and attacks those who oppose that nonsense," O'Reilly said. "The latest smear from Move On is telling their Kool-Aid-drinking zombie followers that Fox News is smearing Barack Obama and is a racist concern. Of course, that's a lie. This broadcast and FNC in general have been exceedingly fair to Senator Obama. ... But in order to intimidate anyone from criticizing Obama in any way, Move On is playing the race card."
Maybe you should take some of your own advise Bill and Shut Up!

Ross the Biggest Liar that we've seen Thus Far!
Pictures surfaced online of Ross in a officer’s uniform, but in a video interview he denied the authenticity of the image. Ross said it was his head, however, the uniformed body was doctored and attached to his face.
“The world is waiting to love America again.”
A recent poll from England found 70% of Italians, 67% of Germans, 65% of the French and 49% of Britons would vote for Obama. Compare that to Republican John McCain, who gets support from 15% of Italians, 6% of Germans, 8% of the French and 14% in Britain.

Newark Hospital Hazing????
A UMDNJ paramedic, identified by university officials as Timothy Prahm, adjusts sheets draped over two Northeastern University students working this summer at University Hospital in Newark. Prahm and two other UMDNJ paramedics have been fired, and university officials say an investigation into the July 6 incident continues.
In today's day and age I am not shocked at the mindset of racist or biased people. What I am shocked with is the fact that anyone in this day and age would even attempt to get away with such a blatant act of the sort. This happening in the middle of a predominately black city once called the "chocolate city" is appalling......
I mean really with cameras on phones, and everything being caught on tape this is just sad........
No one learned from; Michael Richardson, Don Imus, Geraldine Ferraro and the list goes on. If you are planning to think your comments/actions will go unnoticed then you are more ignorant then your own personal ideas of biased-ness....

With people running around that still to this day don't see the problems with what they have or are doing we have to be more careful not to give them ammunition in the form of satire that obviously is way over their heads, as they wont get it and will try to justify their own actions based on it.

So say the Oil Guys.....
Bush agreed with one main argument for restricting drilling - that it would take years for the new supplies to come online. But still, he said that's no reason to not act.
Bush's speech comes at a time when the nation is focused on economic issues. While the economy is not technically in a recession, news on the economic front has not been good.
Home prices are down about 15% nationwide over the last year, according to a recent numbers from the Case/Shiller home price index. The economy has lost jobs for the last six months in a row. And Wall Street has moved into a bear market, with stocks trading 20% below recent highs.
"When will the economy turn around? I'm not an economist," said Bush, responding to a reporter's question. "But I do believe we're growing. I'm an optimist, and there are a lot of positive things about our economy."
Aren't we lucky that our president that has us in two wars now, with a possibility to attack Iran soon.... Highest levels of forclosure and approching $5 gas is optimistic? . . .
I wonder what Mccain's take on this oil crisis is??????

This is still my HOOD
So this Saturday I just chilled, I hung out with my sister and kicked it in my old neighborhood where I grew up. I caught myself reminiscing about my times growing up, and the summers spent running the streets with my friends as a child. With life moving so fast, and racing to do better and better, you sometimes lose sight of the beauty of simplicity. The families that I grew up around, that could call my mom when I acted up are still moving about, with new members. A whole new group of kids run the area, doing all the same things we did but assuming they are the first kids to do the same, made up handshakes, basketball with a square box on a wall as the hoop, etc. I caught myself saying hello to people I didn't know like I was the ambassador of my family, as they walked by the porch.
All in all it was a good time, and made me realize that it's my responsibility to keep that connection no matter where I end up in life..... Because it's still my hood!

Jesse Jackson said WHAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!
OK so the story has been in the news the past few days about Jesse Jacksons remarks about Barack Obama allegedly speaking down to black people.....
My Fraternity Brother Roland Martin of CNN had this to say about it:
http://essence.typepad.com/news/2008/07/rev-jackson-owe.html
"There have been two constants in this presidential campaign: Sen. Barack Obama will openly discuss his faith and present some of today's most troublesome issues through a moral prism. And the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. will say something outlandish and stupid that he will have to apologize for.
First, he told a reporter in South Carolina last year that Obama was "acting white" in his response to the issues in Jena, Louisiana. Then the good Rev wrote an op-ed piece proclaiming that then-Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards was the only one speaking to issues of importance to African Americans.
Now, in his most vile and pathetic comments yet, Jackson was overhead telling a fellow panelist prior to an interview on Fox that he was going to cut Obama's "nuts off" for his speeches on morality and fatherhood in the black community.
Rewind that for a moment. An African American reverend - someone who is called by God to speak to moral issues of the day - takes issue with an African American presidential candidate speaking about faith-based issues and the need for black men to take care of their children, for parents to care about their child's health, and to turn the television off and to start reading more and more books?
If there was any further evidence needed to show that Rev. Jackson has lost his moral compass and is far out of touch with the state of black America today, this is it. And it is clear that Jackson has forgotten that as a minister, his first goal is to always address the moral issues before anything else."

Political Change
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start with a cage containing five apes. In the cage, hang a banana on a string and put stairs under it. Before long, an ape will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the apes with cold water. After a while, another ape makes an attempt with the same result - all the apes are sprayed with cold water.
Turn off the cold water. If, later, another ape tries to climb the stairs, the other apes will try to prevent it even though no water sprays them.
Now, remove one ape from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new ape sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his horror, all of the other apes attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.
Next, remove another of the original five apes and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm.
Again, replace a third original ape with a new one. The new one makes it to the stairs and is attacked as well. Two of the four apes that beat him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in the beating of the newest ape.
After replacing the fourth and fifth original apes, all the apes that were originally sprayed with cold water have been replaced. Nevertheless, no ape ever again approaches the stairs.
Why not?
"Because that's the way it's always been around here."
